First, you determine if your alternator is the type that needs to be opened up to connect the Quicktifier system or does your alternator have a cover on the back that can easily be removed and the system installed. If you have the alternator type that needs to be opened up this is what you do. Open your alternator by first removing the case screws, then pry the two halves apart. If you have the alternator type with a rear cover that needs to come off you remove the cover.
Now, route the leads outside of the alternator case, this is easily done by using an existing hole or drilling a small hole in the rear case then installing an insulating grommet or bushing the make sure the wires do no short to the case and are secured well inside the alternator so the do not hit the spinning rotor inside the alternator. Once the cables have been attached and safely routed, put the remaining insulators on the AC wire and crimp the three included ring terminals to their stripped ends.
Connect these terminals to the bridge rectifier, or bridge rectifier stack, inside the quicktifier. It does not matter in what order the AC wires that come from the alternator connect to the 3 studs in the quicktifier. Now that the Quicktifier is attached to your alternator, close the quicktifier case and mount both under your hood. A male spade crimp connector is provided for your convenience. Connecting this line runs the fan and is crucial for proper quicktifier installation and use.
The Ford Motorcraft 3G, 4G and 6G series alternators have 6 stator leads, the Quicktifier and only uses three of these stator leads, the other three leads are for the "Y" connection and are not used. The 4G you do not have to take out the thru bolts, it has a cover on the back that you remove to expose the area on the bridge rectifier where the Quicktifier leads attach.
The 6G series you remove the three through bolts then pry the rear housing off the rear bearing to expose the stator leads. Once you attach the 3 wires that go to the Quicktifier you either drill holes in the rear cover or you run the wires through the air holes in the cover of rear housing. When running these AC lines from the alternator to the Quicktifier box you must make sure they cannot rub or short out on any metal part of your vehicle.
Never work on the Quicktifier with the vehicles engine running. Then either split the ring terminal or remove the Phillips head screw to attach the Quicktifier wires to the internal bridge rectifier. This part is very important: The Quicktifier only needs three 3 of the four 4 leads shown on the stator. Choosing the correct three 3 leads is very important. The photo on the left shows that one of the terminals has three 3 leads to one connection , do not connect a Quicktifier wire to this lead.
Connect the Quicktifier AC wires to the other three 3 terminals that have a single connection to the stator, not to the one 1 that has several stator connections to one terminal. Connect the rest of the Quicktifier wires to the proper stator leads on the bridge rectifier. The finished product should resemble the image to the lower right. Some models of the Nippondenso alternator have stators that are double wound , they will have two 2 stator connections for each terminal and six 6 on the unconnected terminal.
Proper connection of all three 3 Quicktifier wires is required for operation. Once the Quicktifier wires are connected to the proper stator leads on the bridge rectifier, drill holes in the rear cover so the Quicktifier wires can pass through. The holes must be large enought so the wires do not short out on the cover. This would cause the case to be excited by AC and could lead to severe burns, vehicle damage, or death.
When connecting the three Quicktifier terminals connected to the alternator inside of the Quicktifier External Rectifier module, order does not matter. Simply cut the wires to the required length, strip the ends and crimp on the provided ring terminals and insulate with the included heat shrink tubing. Then remove the nuts from the Quicktifier bridge rectifier stator studs and slide on the ring terminals, replace and tighten the nuts using a small amount of thread locker.
When the cover is replaced and the wires are connected, wrap them with the provided looming and secure the overall wiring so it cannot short out. Shorted AC lines are very dangerous.
